Markora Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 22, 2026
This policy explains how Markora (the “App”) handles information on iPhone and iPad. It applies to the App itself, not to Apple, file providers, websites, or other third-party services that you open; those services have their own privacy policies.
1. Information processed by the App
Content processed on your device
When you choose the relevant features, the App may process on your device:
- Markdown documents that you create, open, edit, and export;
- Markdown, image, or PDF files selected through the system file picker;
- Page images captured or imported for Scan to Markdown, and text produced by on-device Vision OCR;
- Unsaved drafts, recent-document records, and file-access bookmarks used to restore editing and show recent files.
This information is used to edit, preview, scan, convert, and export your content. In the current version, OCR runs on the device. Markora does not upload scan images or recognized text to a Markora server.
Subscription information
Apple App Store and StoreKit handle subscriptions. Apple handles payment, taxes, refunds, billing, and Apple ID-related information. The App reads the product and entitlement status returned by Apple to enable Markora Pro; it does not receive your card number or complete payment details.
See Apple’s Privacy Policy for Apple’s handling of purchase information.
Information we do not currently collect
The current version has no Markora account system and no Markora-hosted document service. We do not actively collect advertising identifiers, usage analytics, crash reports, contacts, or location information in the App. We do not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
2. Camera, files, and network behavior
- The camera is used only after you choose Scan with Camera. iOS/iPadOS asks for camera permission the first time. You can instead import an image or PDF through the system file picker.
- Files are stored where you choose through the system file picker or Save operation. The App uses the file access granted by the system and does not scan folders you did not select.
- Markora does not operate its own network service. Opening an external Markdown link, opening App Store subscription management, or opening an exported file in another app may create network requests handled by that website, system service, or app under its own policy.
- The current editor does not actively download remote images just to display Markdown. Current HTML export also replaces remote-image references with text placeholders. If you later modify the file or open external links, the browser or other app handles the resulting network access.
3. Retention and deletion
Documents and exported assets remain where you save them until you or the file provider deletes them. Even before a manual save, edits (including OCR text inserted into or used to create a document) may be written automatically to local recovery copies. Recovery drafts, recent-document records and preferences stay in app data for recovery and navigation; they are not sent to Markora. Deleting the App removes data in its app sandbox, while documents stored in Files, iCloud Drive, or another file provider must be deleted there separately.
If you choose iCloud Drive or another cloud file provider, that service may synchronize your saved documents. Device backups may also include app data, depending on your settings and the provider’s rules. Deleting the App does not delete cloud, backup or shared copies. Offload App retains documents and data and differs from Delete App.
Markora has no developer-hosted account records that we can directly delete. See Data deletion and requests if you need help.
4. Third-party services
The App uses Apple App Store, StoreKit, the system file picker, Vision OCR, WebKit, and system PDF/image frameworks. Apple may process purchase, device, and diagnostic information under its terms. Markora does not control information collected or retained by those system services.
These public documentation pages are hosted by GitHub Pages. Website visits and GitHub Issues support are subject to the GitHub Privacy Statement; GitHub may process access logs such as IP addresses. Account information, descriptions and attachments you submit in public issues are visible to others. The maintainer uses information you voluntarily provide to address support requests. Statements about the App’s lack of active collection do not mean that the website host or support platform processes no information.
5. Children’s privacy
The App is not designed as a service for children, and we do not intend to collect children’s personal information through it.
6. Security and changes
The App relies on iOS/iPadOS file permissions and platform security. Manage your device, file-provider, and backup permissions carefully. We may update this policy for product, legal, or platform changes; the effective date at the top will identify the current version.
7. Contact
Use the project’s public GitHub Issues for support. Do not post document text, scan images, payment information, or other sensitive personal information in a public issue.
